Main Street Alabama welcomes Main Street America to "Sweet Home Alabama" for the Main Street Now Conference this week!!

Last Updated 2/11/2025Posted in News, Economic Value, Community

On Sunday many Main Street directors and board members toured parts of the state and visited many of our Alabama Small Towns and Downtowns featured in this issue of the magazine.

We must give a shout out to our Main Street friends and advertisers starting with Gadsden Main Street!

I know they had a blast in Downtown Gadsden,  No one is better than Kay Moore in showing off her beloved Main Street with unique shops, restaurants, recreation, and public art.

Another tour group visited Downtown Oxford. A quaint downtown with so much charm.

The City of Oxford and Hunter Gentry have worked hard and prioritized bringing Downtown Oxford back to being a vibrant downtown.

From Oxford they traveled to Heflin, seeing the beautiful foothills of Mt Cheaha and the Cleburne County countryside.

Heflin is a small town making a big impact in Central Alabama. Putting a plan together to save their town has paid off in spades. Becoming part of the Pinholte trail and the hiking and biking community has put Heflin on the map.

Those who visited Wetumpka may have had a little longer trip but so worth the ride!

It is a picturesque small town with a sense of pride and a great vibe you experience just walking down the streets. HGTV was impressed by Wetumpka, but it wasn't so much a Small Town Take Over as a collaboration between HGTV and the local leaders who love Wetumpka.

A little far to travel but also featured in this issue Alabama Small Towns and Downtowns magazine was Eufuala and Enterprise, both Main Street Cities.

If you're a fan of beautiful architecture and historic homes, Eufaula is definitely worth checking out. And if you enjoy fishing, you're in luck - Eufaula is known as the Bass Capital of the world! So, why not plan a visit and enjoy the best of both worlds?

Let's talk about Enterprise. It is one of our larger cities and it's Main Street is alive and doing very well.

Enterprise is a town with a lot to offer. You can find great dining options, interesting shopping choices, and learn about the town's unique history with the boll weevil. This bug surprisingly helped save the town. So, if you're looking for a place to explore, Enterprise is definitely worth the visit.Enterprise is a town with a lot to offer.
