Entertaining the Kiddos during the Holidays
Story by: Lacey Hughes
Crafts, snacks, and friends are three things the Hughes girls absolutely love! And a party brings that all together!
Ava Greer and Layla Westyn loved putting together this small Thanksgiving feast with their mom, Lacey. This little gathering of friends came together the night before it actually happened in an attempt to make the littlest one forget she had missed her school Thanksgiving feast due to tonsillectomy.
It took minimal prep work and the girls were so excited to take part in every detail. The three of them worked on the details as a team, starting with the menu. The girls knew they'd have a traditional Thanksgiving meal with family so they took a different route for their little celebration with friends. (It sure looks like their approach to a Thanksgiving Feast was a lot more fun and no where near as stressful as that traditional meal.)
They had so much fun trying to turn everything into a turkey. With a little bit of construction paper, glue, and some google eyes they quickly transformed ordinary water bottes into turkeys. The girls found some cute turkey plates at Walmart and really wanted them to come to life. They made turkey sandwich bodies, added sliced cheese legs and some yummy apple feathers! Of course Nutella was a necessity for the dipping of the apples. An everyday go-to snack for Ava Greer and Layla Westyn is a yummy meat and cheese tray and boy did they have fun turning one of their favorites into a huge turkey.
Let's not forget that yummy little dessert craft inspired by the turkey on the plate sporting a pilgrim's hat. The girls used fudge stripped cookies, Reese's Cups, M&M's, and a little bit of icing to make the pilgrim hat fun and delicious.
The sweet little giggles and memories made we priceless. So, this Thanksgiving you may want to try a similar gathering with your little ones, who knows, you may even start a new tradition. After all, "Small Cheer and great welcome makes a merry feast." - William Shakespeare
