Lake Wedowee's Storyteller in Paint" Jeremy Adams

By Kelly Caldwell

🎨 Turning Childhood Creativity into a Calling

From the moment Jeremy Adams realized that putting extra effort into art set him apart in elementary school, he’s never stopped creating. Whether it was drawing personalized Valentine’s Day cards or selling hand-traced cartoon designs to classmates, Jeremy’s early love for art carried him into adulthood. Though he jokes that his early motivation was "to impress the girls," it’s clear that his passion runs much deeper.

Through years of practice, from school projects to commissioned work, Jeremy found that murals—more than any other medium—allowed him to tell stories on a larger scale. What began as a hesitant middle school mural on a locker room door turned into a lifelong pursuit of transforming blank walls into lasting memories.

🌅 A Creative Fixture on Lake Wedowee

Jeremy’s connection to Lake Wedowee isn’t just professional; it’s personal. His family has a camper at Pineywoods, a place he describes as their “second neighborhood” and home to their “lake family.” That connection has led him to several mural projects that have added color and character to the lake community.

🍩 Wake and Shake Donut Mural

One of Jeremy’s most recognized projects is the Wake and Shake mural. The project, which began as a collaborative rescue after another artist’s work fell flat, turned into a favorite memory. Jeremy carefully reworked the piece, adding personality and depth to the donuts and rebalancing the colors to fit the quirky character of the lakeside shop.

Perhaps the most iconic part of this mural is the playful declaration, “I Love Lake Wedowee”, which has become a photo favorite among visitors. While it may not feature water directly, the mural has certainly captured the spirit of the lake community.

🦆 Stay Golden Mural at Lucky Duck Dive

Another standout project is the large mural on Lucky Duck Dive, the Airbnb owned by Kesa Johnston. Painted as a family tribute inspired by The Outsiders, the mural features the phrase “Stay Golden” and overlooks the water, offering boaters a colorful landmark. Jeremy worked closely with Kesa, spending weeks perfecting the design and color palette. What started as a simple idea on a t-shirt turned into a lakeside masterpiece, complete with a coordinating colorful fence around the property’s pool.

🪜 Creative Challenges with Big Rewards

Jeremy’s work often comes with challenges—whether it’s battling Alabama’s heat, balancing on ladders, or hand-stamping over 1,000 individual faux bricks for a dome ceiling in a lake house entryway. Yet, these challenges are part of what makes his work rewarding.

His attention to detail and determination to “get it right” has earned him a reputation not just as a muralist but as a storyteller. He documents every project, capturing before-and-after shots, time-lapse videos, and even behind-the-scenes moments that reveal the heart and humor of the process.

🎶 Beyond the Lake: Art, Music, and More

While Lake Wedowee holds a special place in his heart, Jeremy’s talents extend beyond its shores. From courthouse murals in Carroll County, Georgia, to painted window displays in downtown Wedowee, Jeremy’s creative footprint is growing. He also performs with Mark Adams and the Family, combining his love for art and music to bring people together in meaningful ways.

🚧 What’s Next for Jeremy?

Between painting senior parking spots, designing sheriff’s office murals, and working on public library projects, Jeremy stays busy. He’s also looking forward to developing more content for social media and possibly launching a YouTube channel or web series to share the stories behind his work.

When asked how people can follow his journey, Jeremy promises to continue documenting every stroke, every brick, and every laugh along the way.
