The results are in!!! The Great Backyard Bird Count kicked off February 16 and lasted through the 19th. Hundreds of countries and sub regions around the world came together to watch, celebrate, and share their bird sightings for the GBBC. It was an incredible four day global event ended with some pretty amazing numbers.

  • 7920 species of birds identified
  • 210 countries and sub regions participated
  • 384,416 eBird checklists completed
  • 313,874 Merlin ID (Step-by-step, sound, and photo)
  • 164,740 photos, videos, and sounds added to Macaulay Library.
  • 642,003 estimated global participants
  • 385 reported community events

The United States placed first with 212,673 checklists completed and 676 species of birds identified. California, Texas, and Florida were the top 3 states to contribute to the GBBC. Alabama completed 2019 checklists and had 4395 Merlin IDs - Only 6 of Alabama's 67 counties did not participate, which in my opinion is pretty great!! Randolph County completed 5 checklists and observed 25 species.

All and all, it was a successful four days with a lot of helpful data recorded. All stats and information was gathered from https://www.birdcount.org/2024-final-results/. More information on the Great Backyard Bird Count 2024 can be found there, including pictures, videos, and sounds of birds spotted around the world.
