If you are in the Wedowee, Oxford or Heflin area, then you must visit Alabama’s highest point at Cheaha State Park. The southernmost tip of the Appalachian Mountains, Cheaha State Park is the oldest park in Alabama and incredibly unique. 2,799 acres of granite boulders that strut out over the mountainside with hiking trails winding around. The mountain is 2,407 feet above sea level, often above the clouds and is surrounded by the Talladega National Forest (almost 400,000 acres).

What to do? Cheaha is a fantastic base camp for you to hike trails, see waterfalls, take a swim in the pool or lake, go fishing, ride ATV’s, mountain bike the trails, enjoy personal rock climbing and rappelling, get together and geocache, play on the playground or have an old fashioned picnic. Sounds pretty dreamy doesn’t it?
