A Celebration of Legacy and Community

The Helen Keller Festival, now in its 46th year, invites you to join a vibrant celebration of one of America's most inspiring figures. This festival, running from June 27-30, 2024, transforms Tuscumbia, Alabama, into a hub of activity, reflection, and fun while honoring the life and legacy of "America's First Lady of Courage."

The festival kicks off with the downtown parade, a festive procession that brings the community together. Following the parade, people linger downtown for a street party that includes music, food, and fun.

Weekend activities continue in Spring Park with an array of activities for all ages. The Marketplace, located in the park, showcases artists and vendors from across the southeast, offering a unique shopping experience. Friday and Saturday both offer an incredible lineup of musical talent. Meanwhile, food enthusiasts can enjoy food trucks offering delicious treats to keep you fueled throughout the day. Parents can rest assured there will be plenty of activity for children, making an extraordinary family outing.

The musical highlight of the festival will be the Saturday night concert by country music star Collin Raye, known for hits like "Love Me". Raye's concert is set to be an unforgettable part of the festivities, capturing the spirit of the festival with his acclaimed songs.

Admission to the park is $5. With limited parking in the park, attendees are advised to use the free festival shuttle buses for easy access to all the activities. Shuttle stops are located throughout the downtown area.

For the adventurous, the Helen Keller Festival Bike Ride on June 28th promises an exhilarating experience. Starting at Spring Park, this event invites cyclists to explore beautiful downtown Tuscumbia. Registration is $25, available at the festival's official website.

The highlight of the festival is the outdoor performance of William Gibson's "The Miracle Worker." Staged on the grounds of Ivy Green, Keller's birthplace, this play has been a staple for over 60 years, drawing audiences into the world of Helen Keller and her teacher, Anne Sullivan. With professional acting, authentic costumes, and sets that evoke the era, the play is a powerful portrayal of Keller's breakthrough under Sullivan's guidance. Performances are held on Friday and Saturday evenings in June and July, starting at 8:00 pm. Tickets are available by calling 256-383-4066.

The Helen Keller Festival is not just an event; it's a testament to the enduring spirit of one of Alabama's most beloved figures. It's a place where history, community, and fun converge, offering something for everyone. Whether you're drawn by the thrill of the bike ride, the drama of "The Miracle Worker," or the joy of live music, the festival promises four days of memorable experiences.
