Experience History Come Alive at the Recall LaGrange Distillery Raid

Last Updated 3/25/2024In AL North, Events, The Shoals (Colbert County)

The LaGrange College Site Park in Leighton, Alabama, is the place to be May 4, 2024, for a unique journey back in time. The park, located just a short drive from Muscle Shoals, is hosting the Recall LaGrange's Distillery Rain on the Mountain - a live reenactment of a real Prohibition-era clash between lawmen and locals over a hidden moonshine still. Set against the backdrop of early 20th-century America, this event promises an engaging peek into the past, complete with thrill of a skirmish at 2PM sharp.

But there's more to the day than the raid. The event also celebrates the 194th anniversary of Alabama's first chartered college, blending education with entertainment. With activities from 10AM to 4PM, visitors can dive into a range of historical displays, including the notable Alabama Bicentennial Table linked to the state's early days. Enjoy hands-on experiences, varied vendors, arts and crafts, and concessions.

Families and history buffs alike will find plenty to explore, from antique displays and fragments of moonshine stills to modern day distillery tours at Dawson Distillery near the park. The observatory and historical buildings open for tours promise a deeper understanding of the area's legacy.

Don't miss the wagon rides to the nearby LaGrange Cemetery, home to intriguing stories like that of the Petrified Lady, Annie Vinson Ford. It's a chance to connect a slice of Alabama's past in a fun and immersive setting.

For more details, call the event organizers at 256-446-9324 or the Colbert County Tourism Office at 256-383-0783. Join us at the LaGrange College Site Park for a memorable step back in time, where history isn't just told but truly comes to life.
